Arsenal are set to face off against the Champions League holders in the quarter-finals and Mikel Arteta has put up some advice for his players.
Real Madrid sneaked past Atletico Madrid in controversial fashion after a shootout in the Champions League round of 16 to set up a quarter-final tie against Premier League title chasers Arsenal. The Gunners, on the other hand, battered PSV 9-3 on aggregate to continue their European journey.
Mikel Arteta has now sent out a message to the Gunners after setting up their date with 15-time European champions Real Madrid. Additionally, the Basque tactician has reiterated the importance of not making mistakes and giving chances to a team like Real Madrid in such a big game.
Speaking after the win over PSV, Arteta said: “Well, the first thing that you have to be at your best when it comes to that. For the two games, for every minute, don’t give anything away because they’re going to take it. And today we’ve seen for the two goals that we conceded as well. So, that’s a big lesson. And again, when I decided in the boxes, when the real talent, the real performance is crucial. And then creating an unbelievable atmosphere when we have the opportunity to play at home. That is crucial.”
Arteta also opened up on the importance of Arsenal making their way into the last eight of the Champions League. He said: “Why is it important? Because we want to win. And to win, you’re going to have to go through the stages. And because the club needs it. We are a club, a team that wants to be the best and wants to be competing with the best clubs in the world. And in order to do that, you have to constantly be there. And it’s very difficult. But we’ve done it for two years in a row. And we have the capacity and the ability to do it even better.”
