Damilola Omosebi, widely known by his stage name NINODI, is set to release his highly anticipated debut single, HOLY SPIRIT, on March 28, 2025.
With a wealth of unreleased tracks, NINODI has chosen HOLY SPIRIT as his first official release, believing it to be the ideal starting point for his musical journey beginning with a focus on the Holy Spirit, with all other inspirations to follow.
In an exclusive interview with SOJ WORLDWIDE, NINODI shared the story behind his musical journey. As a child, he would often accompany his father to choir practice at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Lagos. Despite his early distractions, including a strong love for football, NINODI eventually developed a deep bond with music.
Hailing from Ilutitun-Osoro in Ondo State, NINODI is known for his unique style that blends gospel and inspirational music.
“Born Oluwadamilola and performing as NINODI, I’m a Nigerian gospel artist and songwriter. Though I was raised in Lagos, I’m from Ikale in Ondo State. My passion for music started in childhood when my father, a choir master at a C.A.C. church, took me to choir rehearsals every Saturday evening. Despite often being distracted by football, I eventually found that music was my true passion,” NINODI explained.
Growing up, NINODI was exposed to both gospel and secular music. His father’s radio played songs from artists like Yinka Ayefele, Lanre Teriba (Atorise), Beautiful Nubia, and Commander Ebenezer Obey. NINODI quickly memorized the lyrics to these songs, sometimes even singing them in his sleep.
Musical Style
NINODI’s music blends traditional gospel sounds with contemporary influences. His soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics aim to inspire, uplift, and strengthen the faith of his listeners.
The Inspiration Behind Holy Spirit
The song Holy Spirit represents NINODI’s spiritual growth and personal journey. Written during a challenging period in his life, the track became a symbol of hope and strength for him.
“My debut single, Holy Spirit, is a reflection of my faith, love, and perseverance. It was written during a difficult time, and it became a source of strength when I needed it most. It represents my spiritual growth and my deepening connection with God,” he shared.
Musical Influences
NINODI’s music is shaped by both gospel and contemporary influences. Though he initially ventured into secular music, releasing covers such as “Woju,” his path eventually led him to gospel. Inspired by artists like Timi Dakolo, Innocent Idibia (2Baba), and Afrobeat icons, NINODI now creates music with the intention of inspiring and uplifting his audience on a deeper level.
“My music today is influenced by gospel artists but also incorporates themes of love and life. I want to use my voice to sing about everything that God represents,” NINODI said.
