President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator for Rivers State  on Tuesday to manage the state’s affairs in the best interest of its people..

 

Tinubu made this announcement during a nationwide broadcast, which was monitored by our correspondent.

 

He stated: “In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state for the benefit of the good people of Rivers State. For clarity, this declaration will not affect the judicial arm of the state, which will continue to operate within its constitutional remit.”

 

The President also declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the ongoing political unrest.

 

Additionally, Tinubu revealed the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all 27 elected members of the State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

 

He remarked: “By this declaration, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.”
