The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Friday that Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), should be included as a candidate for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee election.
CAF had initially rejected Eto’o’s candidacy, despite his status as the former African Player of the Year and his leadership of Fecafoot since 2021. Eto’o, 43, who has had ongoing disputes with the Cameroonian sports ministry, appealed the decision to CAS.
CAS issued an order that Eto’o be added to the list of candidates for the upcoming CAF executive committee election, which will take place during the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly on March 12, 2025. Eto’o is reportedly aiming for the role of CAF Vice President.
The ruling marks a significant victory for Eto’o ahead of the election next week.
