George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State, has refuted allegations made by his wife, Florence, that he was kidnapped. He stated that he is currently in Abuja, where he voluntarily went to report to security agencies about ongoing developments in Rivers State.

In a video shared early on Saturday, Nwaeke denied the claims, suggesting that his wife had been misled and given a script to read. He emphasized that he is safe in Abuja at the Transcorp Hotel, where he arrived after leaving Port Harcourt.

“I am here in TRANSCORP Abuja, having come this morning to meet security agencies and report myself, along with the troubling events in Rivers State. I resigned from my position as Head of Service on Monday because of these issues,” he stated.

He further addressed the video of his wife, explaining that she had been told he was kidnapped and given a script to follow. “I am not kidnapped,” he clarified. “I am in Abuja, working and safe. When I was Head of Service, my wife was not involved in my official duties. The script she read is false and irrelevant.”

Florence Nwaeke had expressed concern about her husband’s whereabouts following his resignation. She confirmed that he called her upon his arrival in Abuja, reassuring her of his safety. However, her anxiety grew after watching an interview with him that she found suspicious.

In an emotional plea, she said, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply, and his phone numbers were unreachable.”

Florence raised alarm after George Nwaeke publicly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being behind the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly to prevent his impeachment.

Nwaeke claimed to have witnessed a bribe being given to Edison Ehie, the former Assembly leader, who is now Fubara’s Chief of Staff, in connection with the attack on the Assembly Complex.
