Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has expressed satisfaction with her verbal exchange with Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi at a Senate Committee hearing on Tuesday.
The clash occurred during a hearing on a petition submitted by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Ezekwesili appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Wednesday, stating that the clash has highlighted the challenges women face in a patriarchal society.
She emphasized that the incident has brought attention to the need for a society that values and respects voices from all individuals.
The altercation began when the petitioner, Zubairu Yakubu, questioned the committee’s credibility and Chairman Neda Imasuen’s handling of the alleged sexual harassment allegation against Akpabio. Ezekwesili intervened, insisting on being heard out and asking to be put on oath as a witness.
Senator Nwaebonyi responded angrily, calling Ezekwesili a “fool” and an “insult to womanhood.” Ezekwesili retaliated by labeling him a “hooligan,” further escalating the confrontation.
Despite the heated exchange, Ezekwesili remains unapologetic, emphasizing the importance of speaking out against injustice and promoting a society that values equality and respect.
