First Bank of Nigeria Limited has refuted fraud allegations made in a lawsuit filed by customer Dr. Agbai Eke, labeling the claims as “entirely unfounded and false.”
In a statement issued by Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, the bank clarified that its internal investigation found the issue stemmed from “unprofessional and unethical dealings” between Dr. Eke and a former employee of FirstBank.
The bank emphasized that these transactions were conducted through a personal relationship and occurred without the bank’s knowledge or involvement.
“Given that the matter is currently before the Court, we will refrain from further comment, allowing the Court to impartially resolve the issues at hand,” the statement noted.
FirstBank also confirmed that the case has been reported to law enforcement agencies for thorough investigation, with the suspects already cooperating with authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to ethical banking practices, FirstBank assured its stakeholders of its ongoing dedication to transparency, accountability, and safeguarding customers’ interests.
