Newcastle star, Anthony Gordon has been ruled out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool due to suspension following his red card in Newcastle’s FA Cup clash against Brighton on Sunday.
The Newcastle winger lashed out with a two-handed shove to the head of Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke as they raced for the ball, and was shown a straight red card.
As Gordon was sent off for violent conduct, he will serve a three-match ban, ruling him out of next weekend’s Premier League visit to West Ham and then the Carabao Cup final clash against Liverpool on March 16. He will also miss his team’s home match against Brentford.
The winger’s absence will come as a huge loss for Eddie Howe’s team. Gordon this season has scored nine goals and set up a further six in 33 appearances in all competitions
Newcastle may opt to appeal against the red card in an attempt to have it overturned. For now, however, the England international will not feature against Arne Slot’s team.
