Dr. Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, the 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, is currently in Mecca for the Umrah pilgrimage, where he is offering prayers for the well-being of Lagos State, its citizens, and Nigeria as a whole.
On March 17, 2025, Jandor publicly announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling his political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Lagos4Lagos Movement leader resigned from the PDP on March 3, 2025, citing issues such as indiscipline within the party, allegations of anti-party activities, betrayal by the PDP leadership during the Lagos governorship race, and misleading claims of an alliance that deceived PDP supporters into backing another candidate.
Jandor’s spokesperson, Gbenga Ogunleye, confirmed that the politician has completed his Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Ogunleye described the journey as a reflection of Jandor’s strong faith and ongoing prayers for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Lagos and Nigeria, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
During his time in Mecca, Jandor focused his prayers on seeking divine guidance and wisdom for the country’s leaders, the security and well-being of Lagosians, and the overall development of Lagos and Nigeria. He emphasized the need for unity, justice, and inclusive governance, advocating for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
Jandor remarked, “This spiritual journey has given me the opportunity to seek God’s intervention for Lagos and Nigeria. I believe that with faith, unity, and true love for our nation, we can overcome our challenges and build a better future for everyone.”
His defection to the APC represents a significant shift in Lagos State’s political landscape, given that Jandor had previously positioned himself as an opposition figure to the ruling party. His decision is expected to influence the political dynamics leading up to the 2027 elections.
