Controversial activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded to a court order for his arrest over alleged defamation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

In a video shared via his X handle on Friday, VDM stated that the judiciary cannot silence him, adding that he plans to expose those financing efforts to bring him down.

The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, had issued a bench warrant for VDM’s arrest for “criminal defamation” against Mercy Chinwo.

VDM, however, rejected the legitimacy of the arrest order. He questioned the legality of the proceedings, pointing out that he was not in Nigeria at the time, and raised concerns about the fairness of the court’s actions.

He also claimed that there was a broader plot to suppress his voice, asserting that there were efforts to manipulate the judiciary against him.

“There’s a plot to shut me down, but I will resist it,” he declared. “I will expose those involved, including judges who issue illegal orders.”

VDM also addressed the multiple cases filed against him, pointing out that he was not physically present in Nigeria when the arrest was ordered. His lawyer had informed the court of his absence and of ongoing cases in the same court, yet the arrest order stood.

In addition, VDM revealed that another court in Nyanya, Abuja, issued an injunction barring him from discussing Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Tee, which he saw as an attempt to silence him further.

He criticized the judiciary for attempting to control his speech, even as he noted that some of the judges involved in his case had questionable histories.

“The truth remains that there is abuse of power,” VDM stated, adding that even if he were arrested, it wouldn’t change the facts. “They can handcuff me, but they cannot change the truth.”

The activist has vowed to continue his fight, declaring that he would not be silenced by these judicial actions.
