President Bola Tinubu has successfully mediated the ongoing conflict within the Lagos State House of Assembly, urging all members to rally behind the leadership of Mudashiru Obasa.

His intervention marks the resolution of a two-month-long crisis that had destabilized the Assembly.

Obasa was removed as Speaker on January 13, 2025, after 35 of the 40 lawmakers accused him of authoritarian rule, financial mismanagement, and despotic leadership. Following his ouster, Mojisola Meranda, his deputy, was appointed Speaker.

However, amid ongoing pressure, Meranda resigned on March 3, 2025, after intervention from both national and state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the aftermath, Obasa was re-elected as Speaker, and Meranda resumed her role as Deputy Speaker.

According to sources, the 40 members of the House met with President Tinubu in Abuja on Wednesday, where an agreement was reached in the interest of the Assembly and the development of Lagos State.
