Abiola Odutayo, the suspect in the fatal accident that claimed the life of Bumpa co-founder Adetunji Opayele, has been arraigned in court.
Odutayo, who was discharged from the hospital, faced charges of reckless and careless driving on a public highway, resulting in Opayele’s death.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arraignment, stating that the court granted Odutayo bail and adjourned the case until April 16, 2025.
The police acknowledged public concerns and sympathized with Opayele’s family and friends.
Opayele, a 32-year-old tech entrepreneur, died on March 4, 2025, after a collision on Ozumba Mbadiwe in Lagos.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for justice and criticizing the driver’s alleged refusal to assist Opayele, citing concerns about staining her car.
A petition demanding justice has garnered over 35,000 signatures, with many advocating for more severe charges, including manslaughter.
The petitioners also requested that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice oversee a thorough investigation and ensure proper prosecution.
