The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Osun Axis has petitioned the President of Nigeria, condemning the negligence and indifference of Silver Transport Company following a tragic accident involving students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
The accident, which occurred near Ibadan Way, resulted in the loss of lives and has sparked widespread outrage among the student community.
According to the petition, Silver Transport Company has failed to take responsibility for the accident, release an official statement, or offer condolences to the victims’ families.
This silence has been deemed an insult to the bereaved families and a blatant disregard for human lives and public safety.
The students body hereby demands immediate action from the government, including a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and accountability for any violations of safety regulations.
They are also calling for government sanctions against Silver Transport Company, including possible closure, and compensation for the victims’ families.
NANS has urged the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in Osun State to ensure that the case is not abandoned or manipulated in favor of the transport company.
The association has threatened to mobilize students across the state and beyond for a mass action to demand justice if swift action is not taken.
According to the petition signed by Comr. Popoola Olayinka, Chairman of NAUS CMC Osun; Comr. Solomon Ayobami Abel, Chairman of NANS JCC Osun; and Comr. Oluwole Olutunde Aboke, General Secretary of NANS Southwest.
