A factional group of Association of Local Government Employees in Osun State has called on local government workers to resume work immediately, condemning the actions of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) leadership in Osun State.

The group under the aegis of Association of Concerned Local Government Staff made the call on Saturday in Osogbo.

Chairman of the group, Comrade Adedayo Adekunle and Secretary, Akin Adepoju during a press conference held in Osogbo, alleged the NULGE President, Dr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe of nepotistisim and flagrant disobedience to the constitution of NULGE especially in respect to the withdrawal of services.

Adekunle explained that “The leadership of the NULGE, Osun state has wrongly and selfishly pitched our union against the people of the state in total disregard to the core values and principles of our union.

“The President of NULGE recently signed a letter to close down the councils, maternity centres and Marriage Registries without holding any Congress just only to please his selfish interest in the State. But open local government to conduct his second term election.”

He emphasized that NULGE is apolitical and the union should not be dragged to any political issues while condemning Ogungbangbe’s decision to join the People’s Democratic Party in a suit against the All Progressives Congress Chairmen and Councilors, he said “It is the association’s duty to work with those lawfully occupying political offices in local governments. If it is APC today or PDP tomorrow, our business is public service delivery and not any political party in power.“

The Association condemns the shutdown of local government services, which has subjected the public to unnecessary hardship. The association calls on all local government workers to resume work immediately.

The association assured its members that it would provide leadership and ensure the security of lives and properties of all workers. Additionally, the association vowed to challenge the infractions committed by Ogungbangbe against the constitution of the union in court.

It can be recalled that on the 19th of February, the Association of Local Government of Nigeria ordered the closure of the local government Secretariats across Osun state, by ordering members to withdraw service.
