Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have denied reports suggesting that five of their members were backing a Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, through the forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, strongly rejected the claims.

The statement read: “The PDP Governors’ Forum, under the leadership of Senator Bala Mohammed, feels it is necessary to categorically denounce and condemn the ongoing spread of misleading rumors and false publications.

These reports, being fueled by agents with ulterior motives, aim to discredit our leadership and undermine our achievements.

“It is clear that these forces, who are struggling with the outcomes of their failed economic policies, are now attempting to create confusion by pitting our Governors against one another.

Their goal is to weaken the opposition and erode our democratic values through misinformation and political manipulation, aiming for a one-party dominance at the expense of our nation’s future.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum is not aligned with these actors, nor does it engage in discussions about any potential Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

“We stand united in our commitment to strengthening our party, continuing the reconciliation process, and ensuring that we improve the lives of Nigerians at every level.

“It is evident that those spreading these falsehoods are simply threatened by the good work PDP Governors are doing to lift Nigerians out of economic hardship, despite the challenges posed by the ruling APC. These detractors, unable to match our progress, resort to baseless rumors in an attempt to discredit us.

“In politics, rumors are inevitable, but we will not allow these ‘Enemies of Progress’ and ‘Agents of Confusion’ to mislead the Nigerian people. Our party’s core values remain rooted in equity, social justice, accountability, and the betterment of the people.

“We hereby declare, without reservation, that in 2027, the PDP Governors will wholeheartedly support the party’s chosen candidate, as we work to reclaim power from the underperforming administration currently in charge.”
