Over 42,000 primary and secondary school students have benefited from the Imole School Eye initiative.

The Initiative was designed by the State Government in order to assist students with eye challenges to focus more on their students.

The empowerment was done at the different zones of the state on Monday morning where the students were attended to and were given eye drops, eye glasses, antibiotics, among others.

The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Rasaq Akindele who spoke with the newsmen commended the parents for releasing Thier wards for the programme.

“I am very impressed with the outcome of these initiatives, and I must commend the parents of thee wards for releasing them to be beneficiaries.

“We prepared for 25,000 students but as of this morning, we have data that shows of up to 42,000 students who will benefit from this.

“This distribution of eye treatment and services is currently ongoing on all the zones of the state, Ede, Ikirun, Ataoja, Iwo, Ilesha and so on. This will greatly impact the lives of the students for clear vision and also for them to fully participate in class without any barriers”, he explained.

In an interview with a consultant opthalmologist of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Modupe Adebayo enjoined parents to be very observant of their wards and pay close attention to them.

“Well, part of what I discovered is that most of these children know they have eye issues, but some, when we interviewed some, they said it was because of financial constraints, their parents were not able to bring them to the hospital.

“I will enjoin the parents to try and monitor and pay close attention to the health of Thier children, most of these cases won’t have gotten to this level of the parents were attentive, let’s monitor these children” , she enjoined.

Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent expressed their profound gratitude to the Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the agency for taking good care of them, while offering praises and prayers to the organisers.
