Political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has called for the swift prosecution of those responsible for the recent killings of at least sixteen Northerners in Uromi, Edo State.
Omokri warned that any delay in delivering justice, even if financial compensation is offered to the victims’ families, could exacerbate tensions.
In a statement shared on his Facebook, Omokri emphasized that the case must be treated with urgency, pointing out that video evidence makes it a clear and straightforward case.
He stressed the need for immediate legal action to prevent further damage to ethnic relations in the country.
Omokri highlighted the leadership style of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as an example of decisive action.
He referenced how Makinde promptly dealt with the Oodua Nation agitators in April 2024, deploying security forces to arrest them and ensuring they were brought to court within 72 hours.
He also mentioned the prompt legal response to the December 2024 Ibadan stampede, where individuals, including Olori Naomi Silekunola, were charged within 96 hours.
Omokri, who has lived in the North, emphasized that swift justice is crucial for easing tensions in the region, warning, “Words alone will not calm the North. The suspects must be brought before a judge without delay to prevent further violence.”
Reflecting on his stance in the Yunusa Yellow case, Omokri reiterated that justice should be pursued impartially, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or region.
He called for urgent judicial action, urging, “Justice for these Northerners must be swift and decisive!”
