Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has addressed the contentious issue of sex-for-roles in the Nigerian film industry.

He stated that some actresses deliberately enter the industry with the intention of using sexual relationships to further their careers.

Kosoko shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he refuted the idea that directors and producers always impose such conditions on actresses. He stressed that no one can be forced into sexual exchanges for roles.

“If I told you that you need to warm my bed to get a role and you refuse, they cannot force you. But if you choose to accept the offer, then you’re the one deciding to play along,” he explained.

While acknowledging that such demands are inappropriate, the veteran actor made it clear that the responsibility lies with the individuals involved.

“I’m not saying it’s right to introduce that kind of proposition, but if you fall for it, that’s your personal decision. How does it affect the world? This whole sex-for-roles narrative is overblown,” Kosoko stated.

He further revealed that some women intentionally use such situations to gain fame in Nollywood.

“I know some ladies who enter the industry with the mindset that ‘if I sleep with this one and that one, I’ll get my name out there.’ I even know some popular actresses, and I’ve heard of one who’s a Magistrate,” he shared.
