Chief Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a blatant violation of constitutional authority.

In his response to the situation, George stated, “This is utter chaos—a complete disregard for the constitution. The Constitution has been grossly violated.”

He further emphasized, “We cannot remain silent in the face of such recklessness. What exactly did Fubara do? As Commander-in-Chief, Tinubu deployed soldiers and security forces under Wike’s leadership to destabilize Rivers State. Despite not having control over these security agencies, the governor stayed composed. No one has provided any justification for the drastic imposition of this emergency rule.”

George compared the event to previous political turmoil, saying, “This mirrors the beginning of crises in 1962 and 1983. It feels like a rehearsal for Tinubu’s plans in 2027. The APC is seeking to seize control of states through unconstitutional means.”

He also questioned the legality of Tinubu’s actions, asking, “Did he secure approval from the National Assembly before announcing his decision? What happened in Rivers appears to be a deceptive maneuver—‘the hand of Esau and the voice of Jacob.’ Why was there no declaration of a state of emergency in Lagos when lawmakers were in conflict? And why did he meet with Diete-Spiff and Niger Delta leaders last week if this was his plan all along?”

George concluded by asking, “Is Tinubu now turning into a civilian dictator?”.
