The minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently unprepared for the 2027 general elections, pointing to a lack of cohesive structure and strategic direction within the party.

Speaking during a live media interaction in Abuja on Friday, Wike criticised the internal dynamics of the PDP and questioned its readiness to effectively compete against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP is not ready for the 2027 elections. It’s very clear,” Wike said. “It’s like someone pretending to study for an exam—carrying a bag to class just for show, but not actually reading. That’s the reality of the PDP today. You can’t claim to be ready when there’s no serious groundwork.”

Wike, who served as the Governor of Rivers State and is a prominent member of the G5 group of dissenting PDP governors, has remained an outspoken critic of the party’s leadership since the 2023 elections. He emphasized that internal power struggles continue to undermine the PDP’s ability to position itself as a credible alternative.

His remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are exploring alliances to counter the APC ahead of 2027. However, efforts to form a united front have been stalled by competing interests and a lack of consensus among major players.
