Air Peace is reeling from heavy financial losses following a recent strike by employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Services Agency (NiMet), which disrupted operations across the aviation sector.
Insiders at the airline estimate revenue losses nearing $1 million, as flights were grounded during the two-day industrial action. An Air Peace official, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the impact as “massive” and “humongous.”
“We run at least 100 flights daily. The combined losses from canceled bookings and wider economic effects are staggering not just for us, but for the Federal Government and the entire aviation industry,” the source said.
The strike, which began Tuesday evening and continued through Wednesday, led to the cancellation of approximately 150 flights. With each flight typically generating around $10,000, gross losses were pegged at roughly $1.5 million.
After accounting for lower fuel and operational costs, net losses are estimated between $900,000 and $1.2 million.
Air Peace emphasized that the flight suspensions were strictly precautionary, aligning with safety protocols.
“Safety remains our highest priority,” the official added. “If any concerns arise during pre-flight checks, we ground the aircraft until they’re fully resolved.”
