Security forces have foiled an attempted break-in at the private residence of Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, in Maiduguri, Borno State, arresting a 35-year-old suspect identified as Musa Ibrahim from the Maduganari area.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on April 9 at the Vice President’s home in New GRA, Gwange 3 Ward, near Bama Road.

The suspect allegedly tried to scale the perimeter fence on the western side of the property, using the bank of the Gadabul River as a point of access.

He was spotted by security personnel and attempted to flee but was shot in the leg and apprehended.

He was taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probing, while security around the residence has been significantly tightened.
