A Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa has issued an order preventing supporters of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, from holding a major rally in the state.

The rally, which was originally set for April 12, 2025, has now been postponed pending the court’s decision on the matter.

Justice I.A. Uzakah of the Bayelsa State High Court granted an ex-parte motion in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025 on Thursday, effectively halting the rally.

The lawsuit was filed by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo SAN, against the rally organizers, NEW Associates, Mr. George Turnah, and Minister Wike.

Along with the rally organizers, the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police have also been named as respondents.

The court’s order bars the first and second defendants from organizing, participating in, or facilitating any political event in Bayelsa State related to supporting or celebrating Wike, until the case is resolved.

The motion hearing is set for April 11, 2025.
