The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.
Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the directive on Wednesday during a brief ruling, also instructing all parties—particularly the EFCC—to return to court on May 2 to report on compliance with the order.
Earlier in the day, EFCC operatives brought Achimugu to court in line with a previous directive. She arrived around 11:35 a.m., flanked by two female EFCC officers.
On Monday, Justice Ekwo had directed Achimugu, who was accused of fleeing the country, to appear before the EFCC by 12 noon on Tuesday. He also instructed the agency to present her in court the following day for a status report.
However, it was reported that EFCC operatives apprehended Achimugu upon her return to the country around 5 a.m. and held her in custody.
