The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on 2025 Batch A Stream 1 corps members to take advantage of its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become job creators and contribute to national wealth.
Speaking during the SAED training flag-off on Monday, the Director of SAED, Aremu Kehinde, urged corps members to embrace entrepreneurship and self-reliance. His message was delivered by the Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, at the NYSC Orientation Camp.
“As you begin this journey, I encourage you to fully utilize the opportunities offered by the SAED programme. Aim to become job creators, problem solvers, and wealth generators—not just job seekers,” Kehinde said.
He explained that the SAED initiative is a key part of the NYSC’s mission to empower Nigerian graduates with practical and entrepreneurial skills that can help them achieve economic independence. The programme includes a 10-day in-camp training, followed by post-camp mentorship and hands-on practice at corps members’ places of primary assignment.
Kehinde emphasized the programme’s motto, “One Corps Member, Two Skills,” and outlined various skill areas available, including agro-allied businesses, information and communication technology, creative arts, construction, energy and satellite technology, cosmetology, and logistics services.
He also highlighted the availability of financial support for outstanding corps members, noting that funding partners such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, microfinance banks, Unity Bank, Access Bank, Nigeria Credit Corporation, and Ecobank are ready to support viable business ideas developed through the SAED programme.
In her opening address, Mrs. Garba encouraged corps members to stay focused during the training and to identify and develop their innate talents. She stressed that the skills learned through SAED could be turned into profitable ventures after the service year.
Also speaking at the event, the SAED Monitoring Officer from NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Mr. Owuna Sunday, underlined the importance of the post-camp phase of the programme. He described it as the most critical stage, where corps members deepen their chosen skills and prepare business plans that can attract funding.
He urged participants to take the programme seriously, noting that many corps members had gone on to become successful entrepreneurs after taking full advantage of the SAED initiative.
