The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Bassey Otu has officially welcomed Dr. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Emana’s defection was announced hours earlier via her X handle, and she visited the governor to personally inform him of her decision. She was accompanied by the state APC chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor. The Governor’s wife, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu, also received Emana during the meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Emana explained, “I came to pay my respects to His Excellency, the Governor, and Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, and to formally notify them of my decision to join the APC. The official date for my formal and ceremonial switch to the APC, along with thousands of my supporters and other prominent figures, will be announced soon.”
Emana, who recently resigned from the PDP, addressed her resignation letter to the chairman of Edem Odo Ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area on March 28. She emphasized that her decision was not made lightly and expressed her dedication to serving her community and advancing the development of Cross River State and Nigeria.
Before her defection, Emana served as the running mate to Senator Sandy Onor in the 2023 governorship race and had previously sought the PDP’s ticket for the House of Representatives in the Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency.
