Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has firmly denied allegations that the agency is being used to pursue political opponents of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Olukoyede emphasized that the Commission operates independently and is free from political interference.

He argued that the EFCC’s case history shows a balanced approach, noting that more members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have faced investigation or prosecution than opposition politicians.

“These claims are nothing more than distractions from the real progress the President is driving,” Olukoyede said.

The controversy follows the recent defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other prominent PDP members to the APC. Critics allege that state agencies, including the EFCC, were used to pressure the move.

In response, Olukoyede pointed to the EFCC’s track record as proof of its impartiality. “If you review our major cases, many involve APC members. It’s simply unfair to overlook that and accuse us of political bias,” he explained.

He went on to commend President Tinubu’s governance style, describing him as focused on performance rather than political maneuvering.

“He’s results-oriented. He always asks, ‘What have you done? What have you recovered?’ never who to go after,” the EFCC chairman said.

Olukoyede urged Nigerians to assess the Commission’s work objectively and avoid politicizing its efforts to combat corruption.
