The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Elie Bitar, a 41-year-old foreign national, wanted in connection with a cryptocurrency fraud allegedly carried out through the platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX).

In a public notice shared Wednesday via its official social media channels, the EFCC accused Bitar of masterminding a fraudulent investment scheme that duped numerous Nigerian investors through CBEX.

“The public is hereby notified that ELIE BITAR, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud allegedly perpetrated on an online trading platform called Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX),” the statement read.

Bitar’s last known address is listed as Eng. George Enemoh Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The notice was issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The Commission is urging anyone with information about Bitar’s whereabouts to report to any EFCC zonal office or contact the agency via 08093322644 or [email protected].

CBEX gained popularity during Nigeria’s cryptocurrency surge by offering promises of quick and substantial returns. However, concerns eventually mounted over its lack of regulatory compliance and transparency.
