The Federal Government has issued a 14-month deadline to Infiouest Construction Company for the completion of Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Road project. The section, which forms part of the broader N777 billion Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, was re-awarded to Infiouest at a cost of N525 billion after the original contract with Julius Berger Plc was revoked due to cost variation disputes.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, announced the new timeline during the official flag-off of Section II in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He noted that the road will be constructed using concrete reinforcement technology and is expected to be completed swiftly.
Umahi praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his support and leadership in facilitating the project. He emphasized that the completion of the entire 700-kilometre Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road will significantly reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion.
Providing further updates, the minister explained that Section I is located in Abuja while Section III stretches into Kano. Julius Berger has already completed a substantial portion of the road, covering about 240 kilometres between Zaria and Kano.
The remaining 140 kilometres of the route, now split into two 70-kilometre sections, will be handled by Infiouest. Additionally, the federal government has approved the extension of the road by 11 kilometres to connect directly to Aminu Kano International Airport.
Umahi added that President Bola Tinubu has directed that the entire road corridor be equipped with solar-powered street lights. He also confirmed that sections I and III—totalling 118 kilometres—have been awarded for N252 billion.
