Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has stirred political speculation after publicly casting doubt on his continued allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) beyond 2027.

During a constituency outreach event on Tuesday at Ikot Akpankuk in Ukanafun Local Government Area, Governor Eno used a striking metaphor to express his uncertainty about the PDP’s viability. Comparing the party to a malfunctioning aircraft, he suggested he may be open to “boarding another plane” to reach his political destination—a comment widely interpreted as a potential signal of defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“If you were set to fly with Ibom Airline and it developed a fault just before takeoff, wouldn’t you take the next available plane to reach your destination?” he asked the audience at the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency meeting.

His remarks come amid growing unease within the PDP, marked by internal fractures and high-profile defections, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC.

Despite questioning the PDP’s direction, Governor Eno urged his supporters to stay focused on the administration’s development agenda. “Service to the people remains our priority,” he assured.

As part of the outreach, over 400 constituents received various empowerment packages, including grants and equipment support. Specifically, 154 traders received financial aid, 116 farmers were supported, four entrepreneurs were given N5 million each for business expansion, and 131 individuals benefitted from equipment distribution.

Cautioning against poor financial decisions, Eno advised beneficiaries to avoid Ponzi schemes and channel the funds into sustainable ventures. “We must be wise with what we’ve been given,” he emphasized.

The governor also highlighted that this outreach is part of a broader effort to engage all 10 federal constituencies in the state, with four already covered. He assured that insights gathered would help shape the 2026 budget.

“We’re not just here to talk—we’re here to listen, assess your needs, and ensure governance reflects your priorities,” he stated. “This is your government—by the people, for the people, and with the people.”

While Governor Eno has yet to officially announce any party switch, his remarks have added fuel to ongoing discussions about shifting political allegiances in Akwa Ibom and the wider opposition landscape.
