Human rights advocacy group The Critical Thinkers has urged the coroner’s court to mandate a forensic analysis of phone records belonging to individuals who were in close contact with late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, in the 48 hours preceding his death.
In a statement released by spokesperson Toby Bart on Sunday, the group expressed concern over conflicting testimonies presented during the ongoing inquest.
Bart specifically called for representatives from Curamed Hospital the first facility Mohbad was reportedly taken to, to appear before the court.
This request follows discrepancies between accounts given by the hospital and by Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo.
During a previous session, Dr. Chigozie Iwuala of Perez Medicare Hospital testified that Mohbad was already deceased upon arrival, and that his body appeared to have been soaked in water possibly to conceal signs of death.
He estimated the singer had been dead for more than three hours prior to arrival.
This account contrasts sharply with Adebanjo’s public statement claiming that Mohbad died just 20 minutes after reaching the hospital.
“At the most recent hearing, only Dr. Iwuala and Fiselis Esenbor, the driver who transported Mohbad to his final show in Ikorodu, were present. The absence of Curamed Hospital’s representatives raises serious concerns,” the group stated.
The statement also cited CCTV footage showing Mohbad being rushed into Perez Medicare, which reportedly supports Dr. Iwuala’s version of events.
Furthermore, Esenbor revealed he received a call around noon on September 12, 2023, informing him of the singer’s death adding further uncertainty around the actual timeline.
Given these inconsistencies, The Critical Thinkers called on the court to authorize a comprehensive forensic review of the phone records of all involved parties.
“The presence of Curamed Hospital at the next hearing set for April 25, 2025 is crucial,” the group concluded, underscoring the importance of hospital records, staff testimony, and surveillance footage in uncovering the truth.
