The former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has urged those at leadership position to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal gain. He also revealed that he left office with the same physical assets he had before his presidency.
Buhari while speaking at his Kaduna residence during a visit from the Progressive Governors Forum i.e APC governor, he stated the importance of adopting a citizen-centric approach to leadership.
Buhari also noted that leadership offers both challenges and opportunities, and effectively balancing the two is key to advancing national progress.
The ex-president expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the nation’s continued progress. He also thanked the Bola Tinubu administration for renovating his Kaduna home, highlighting that while the exterior remained unchanged, significant improvements had been made inside.
Expressing gratitude for the governors’ visit, Buhari acknowledged his work with many of them while also welcoming the new faces.
Earlier, the Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, explained that their visit was to greet Buhari on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr and to express their deep gratitude for his significant contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and the strengthening of the APC.
In a statement from Buhari’s media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Uzodinma added: “Many of us recall with pride the principled role you played in founding the APC. That legacy continues to shape our party’s direction. We are especially gratified to hear your recent affirmation that the APC remains your party of choice, reaffirming your place as a pillar of our movement.”
Uzodinma further commended Buhari for being the only opposition candidate in Nigeria’s history to defeat an incumbent president. He highlighted Buhari’s governance, which focused on security, economic recovery, and anti-corruption, and his legacy in areas such as reclaiming territories from insurgents and expanding social investment programs like the Conditional Cash Transfer and School Feeding Program. He also noted Buhari’s contributions to the development of road and rail infrastructure and the success of programs like the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, which positively impacted food security.
“We are grateful for your efforts in promoting local production, dignity in governance, and the progressive values of our party,” Uzodinma said.
He concluded by praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold leadership and reform-driven agenda, emphasizing that Buhari’s endorsement of Tinubu provided a symbol of continuity and humility. “We honor you today not just for your past service, but for the enduring values you represent. We ask for your continued support and guidance as we work to deepen progressive politics and ensure the APC’s continued success in building a more prosperous Nigeria.”
