Veteran Juju music legend, King Sunny Ade, has firmly debunked rumors about his disappearance or alleged kidnapping, stating on Tuesday that he is safe, sound, and actively performing.
In a live video shared by his wife, Mrs. Bose Olubo-Adegeye, the music icon addressed growing concerns on social media, sparked by his daughter, Damilola Adeniyi-Adegeye.
Damilola had raised alarm on Monday, accusing her stepbrother and the musician’s manager, Dayo, of holding their father hostage and mismanaging his affairs. She also made several accusations online, claiming Dayo was restricting access to King Sunny Ade and misappropriating funds.
In one of her posts, she wrote: “Dad told my brother that he wants to go home. Where is he? Where are his phones? He has not been online or picking up his calls.”
She further demanded Dayo’s arrest, alleging financial misconduct and warning that he might flee the country using a UK visa.
In response, King Sunny Ade appeared in the video, reassuring fans of his well-being and continued dedication to his music career. He mentioned performing at an event in Lekki, Lagos, over the weekend and said he was en route to another show.
“Nobody kidnapped me. I don’t want anyone to kidnap me, and I pray it never happens. I believe the whole world loves me,” he said. “I thank God and all my fans for the concern. I’ve been doing my shows regularly.”
He acknowledged that the concerns may have stemmed from some of his children not seeing him recently but emphasized that he was never out of reach.
“My children love me and want to see me. I didn’t disappear. This is me, and I thank them for their concern,” he added.
Concluding, King Sunny Ade expressed gratitude to Nigerians and fans around the world for their love and support. “By God’s grace, enjoyment continues. Music is my life and my business. I will keep doing it.”
