The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas, has made key and significant appointments to both the state’s civil service and local government commissions.

These appointments come with the installation of administrators for the 23 local government councils, despite a restraining order from the Federal High Court opposing such actions.

However, on Wednesday morning, Ibas also made a crucial appointments to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

In an announcement made by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, stated, “His Excellency, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ebok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, Administrator of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of members to the Civil Service Commission and Local Government Service Commission.”

The Civil Service Commission members are: Dr. Livinus Bariki (Chairman), Amb. Lot Peter Egopija (Member), Mrs. Maeve Ere Bestman (Member), Mrs. Joy Obiaju (Member), and Mrs. Charity Lloyd Harry (Member).

The Local Government Service Commission members include: Mr. Israel N Amadi (Chairman), Mr. Linus Nwandem (Member), Lady Christabel Ego George Didia (Member), Dr. Tonye Willie D Pepple (Member), Barr. Richard Ewoh (Member), Rear Adm. Emmanuel Ofik (Rtd) (Member), and Dr. Sammy Apiafi (Member).

Professor Worika further stated that the appointments took effect on April 7, 2025.

This move by the ibas follows his decision to dissolve all boards, parastatals, and commissions last week, and to dismiss all political appointees made by the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

With this step made by the sole administrator, it has fueled speculation among political observers that Ibas is working to dismantle the remnants of Fubara’s political structure within the state.
