In a grand ceremony held at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The coronation event, which took place on Saturday, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Oba Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.
The new monarch completed the compulsory 21-day traditional rites, known as Oro Ipebi, on March 29, 2025.
The Oyo State Government had deployed security operatives at strategic locations within the ancient city and surrounding communities to ensure a smooth and secure ceremony.
Oba Owoade was presented with the staff of office and instrument of office on January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.
As the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade is expected to uphold the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people while steering the Oyo Kingdom into a new era.
