Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has demanded the public parade of those responsible for the horrific killings of 16 hunters and called for compensation for their families.

Yusuf made the request during a condolence visit from his Edo State counterpart, Governor Monday Okpebholo, in Kano on Monday.

This visit came after the hunters were buried in Uromi, Edo State, following their lynching by a mob that accused them of being kidnappers. The hunters, traveling in a truck, were stopped by a vigilante group; while 16 were killed, 10 managed to escape.

The governor condemned the attack as a cowardly act that goes against both Islamic and Christian values, stressing Nigeria’s commitment to safeguarding human life.

He confirmed that 14 suspects had been arrested and vowed that Kano would continue to promote unity and uphold justice. He also reassured Okpebholo that strong security measures were in place to prevent any reprisals, urging for the suspects to be publicly paraded to ensure accountability and closure for the victims’ families.

Governor Okpebholo expressed his condemnation of the killings, calling them barbaric, and reassured the victims’ families that justice would prevail.

He confirmed that President Bola Tinubu had ordered an investigation into the incident and assured that progress was being made.

Both governors, along with other political figures, stressed the need for peace and unity, strongly denouncing mob justice.
