Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that star forward Kylian Mbappe is expected to return from injury in time for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against arch-rivals Barcelona.

Mbappe, who missed Madrid’s 1-0 La Liga victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, will also sit out Wednesday’s league fixture against Getafe as he continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained during their recent Champions League exit to Arsenal.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Ancelotti expressed optimism over Mbappe’s recovery, along with that of defender Ferland Mendy, both of whom are aiming to be fit for the high-stakes Clasico.

“They won’t be available for tomorrow’s match, but they’ll train over the next few days, and I believe they’ll be ready for Saturday,” said Ancelotti.

Mbappe, who has netted 33 goals this season, was reportedly frustrated by his inability to contribute in recent matches. He was even met with boos from sections of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd when shown on the big screen during Sunday’s game.

“He’s hurting—not just from the injury, but because he can’t be out there helping the team,” Ancelotti added. “He’s doing everything possible to be fit for the final.”

In Mbappe’s absence, Madrid adopted a more conservative setup with an extra midfielder, resulting in a more stable defensive performance against Bilbao. Ancelotti acknowledged the team’s ongoing struggle to strike the right balance.

“We’ve had issues this season, and that’s clear,” he said. “We’ve had to adjust our style to fit the players available. Finding the right balance has been difficult, but it’s crucial in this final stretch. Without it, winning will be very tough.”

Real Madrid currently trail league leaders Barcelona by four points, but all eyes are now on Saturday’s final, where both teams will be battling for silverware and bragging rights.
