Mustapha Adekunle, widely known as Sego, the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), narrowly avoided an assassination attempt on the night of Saturday, April 5, 2025. Six armed assailants stormed his Surulere residence, but Sego was fortunately away at the time.

The attackers arrived at his home on Gbadamosi Close around 11 p.m., overpowered the security guard, and ransacked the property in search of the union leader.

Sego had left earlier to attend an event with associates who had visited him earlier in the day.

The audacious attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing heightened fears of future threats.

The Area C Police Command promptly visited the scene to assess the situation and gather statements, particularly from the security guard, whose account is pivotal to the ongoing investigation.

A close associate of Sego confirmed that the NURTW chairman is deeply troubled by the targeted attack, particularly as he pushes forward with reforms aimed at improving the welfare of union members.

The associate also stated that Sego is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
