Popular Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, was released on Tuesday evening after being questioned for several hours by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was reportedly taken into custody Monday night from his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and transported to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
His arrest was linked to alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Act, specifically for spraying US dollars at public events an act considered as abuse of the Naira and defacing of foreign currency.
Following his release, E-Money shared a video on Instagram (@iam_emoney1) from his opulent home, reassuring fans with the caption.
“No tension, everywhere good. I see all your love and support. God bless you all.” A gospel track played in the background, signaling his gratitude.
Although EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale has not issued an official statement, the development was confirmed by a source within the agency, who noted.
“We arrested E-Money for alleged abuse of the Naira and defacing of foreign currency. Investigations are still ongoing and he will be charged accordingly once concluded.”
Meanwhile, fellow celebrity and nightlife entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, also celebrated E-Money’s release, posting: “My brother don fall out. To God be the glory,” on Instagram.
