The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its nomination guidelines for aspirants contesting in the upcoming July 12 local government elections, with chairmanship hopefuls expected to pay a total of N5.5 million in fees.
According to the guidelines jointly signed by APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and Secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, male aspirants seeking chairmanship positions must pay N5 million for the nomination form and an additional N500,000 as an administrative fee.
Female aspirants will receive a 50% discount on the nomination fee, paying N2.5 million, but must still pay the full administrative fee. Aspirants under 40 years old are also eligible for a 50% nomination fee discount, while persons with disabilities (PWDs) are exempted from paying the nomination fee entirely, though they must pay a reduced administrative fee of N250,000.
For councillorship positions, male aspirants are to pay N1 million for the nomination form and N100,000 for administrative costs. Female aspirants will pay N250,000 for the form, while administrative fees remain the same. Youths under 40 will get a 50% discount on the nomination form, and PWDs can obtain it for free, with a N50,000 administrative charge.
The party stated that no separate fee would be charged for the vice-chairmanship position.
All payments are to be made via bank draft in favor of APC Lagos State.
The party also outlined eligibility criteria for aspirants:
Chairmanship candidates must be at least 30 years old; councillorship aspirants, at least 25.
All candidates must be Nigerian citizens with a minimum of a school certificate or its equivalent.
Each chairmanship aspirant must be endorsed by five registered APC members from their local government or LCDA.
Councillorship aspirants need endorsement from 20 registered members from their ward.
All aspirants must provide proof of active party membership and loyalty, and sign the party’s Code of Conduct.
Additionally, any party official intending to contest must resign their position at least 30 days before the primaries or election date.
The APC emphasized that only candidates cleared by its Screening Committee will be eligible to participate in the primaries.
