The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted widespread reports claiming the organization owed late Super Eagles legend, Christian Chukwu, before his death on Saturday.

Viral posts on social media alleged that Chukwu was being owed $128,000 by the federation. However, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, dismissed the reports as baseless, stating there is no record of any such debt in the federation’s files.

“There is no record in the NFF of any outstanding indebtedness to ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu,” Sanusi said in a statement.

“During the first term of the Amaju Pinnick-led board, a special committee was set up to examine all claims from coaches who were reportedly owed by previous NFF administrations. All verified debts were paid.”

Chukwu served as head coach of the national team from 2002 to 2005, before leaving the role following a World Cup qualifying draw with Angola.

Sanusi emphasized that the NFF operates with transparency and challenged anyone with valid documentation of unpaid debts to come forward.

“If we are presented with credible, verifiable documents confirming any debt to Christian Chukwu or any national team coach in the last 20 years we will settle it immediately,” he added.
