Popular actor and comedian Okey Bakassi has been crowned the traditional ruler of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State, marking a significant new chapter in his life and career.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) led the wave of congratulations, celebrating Bakassi’s ascension to the throne. In a statement shared via Facebook, AGN National President, Chief Emeka Rollas, praised Bakassi’s achievement, describing it as a proud moment for the guild.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, National Executive, Congress, and the entire members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, we congratulate one of our own and a member of our Board of Trustees who has just been crowned the king of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State. Congratulations,” Rollas wrote.
Prominent entertainers such as Alibaba, Kcee, Yaw, Acapella, and Frank Edoho also took to social media to send their well-wishes, celebrating Bakassi’s transition from the entertainment stage to traditional leadership.
Confirming the development, Bakassi posted on his social media handle: “Next level… Service to Community,” signaling his readiness to embrace his new responsibility as a monarch.
With a career spanning over three decades, Okey Bakassi has earned recognition as one of Nigeria’s top comedians and actors. In 2014, he won the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in Onye Ozi. His latest role as a traditional ruler marks a new kind of leadership — one rooted in heritage and community service.
