In a major step toward addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the Osun State Government through the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Affairs has announced the reactivation and full commencement of operations at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), located within the State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo.
The Centre, which had remained non-operational for several years, has now been refurbished, re-equipped, and fully revitalized to provide a broad range of critical services for survivors of sexual assault. This was communicated in a letter sent to all concerned organizations, MDAs, and partners, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Welfare, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde.
She stated, “The SARC will operate as a secure and confidential facility, effective from today, Monday, April 14, 2025, providing comprehensive care — including medical services, psychological counseling, legal aid, and coordinated referrals.”
According to Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, the revitalization of the Centre underscores the Osun State Government’s commitment to combating SGBV and supporting survivors with dignity and professionalism.
“This milestone reflects our dedication to institutional strengthening and a coordinated response to ensure justice and healing for survivors,” she added.
The Ministry has called on relevant organizations, government agencies, and development partners to collaborate in ensuring the effective utilization and sustainability of the Centre. Details on referral pathways and inter-agency coordination are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
