The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams and advanced security assets to the affected communities following a series of deadly attacks in Plateau State

In a statement announced on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this development respond to escalating violence in Bokkos Local Government Area, which began on March 28 and has since resulted in significant loss of life and widespread fear.

According to Adejobi, the deployment reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s firm commitment to restoring peace, safeguarding residents, and ensuring those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

To lead the intervention, the IGP has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Yakubu, with overseeing the security response. The effort includes the deployment of elite tactical units, state-of-the-art surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers, Police Mobile Force units, helicopters, and specialized teams from the Special Intervention Squad.

“These assets will be strategically positioned to conduct targeted operations aimed at halting the ongoing attacks and preventing further violence,” the statement said.

The latest wave of violence began on March 28 when armed assailants launched a brutal assault on Bokkos communities, killing several residents and injuring many others. The attacks have continued, leaving dozens dead and communities in mourning.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, DIG Yakubu arrived in Plateau State on April 8 to assess the security landscape. During a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Plateau community.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss the root causes of the violence and work toward a long-term, sustainable solution.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to collaborating with the Plateau State Government, local communities, and other security stakeholders to bring lasting peace to the region,” Adejobi added.

The Force is also calling on residents to support ongoing efforts by cooperating with security agencies and sharing any useful information that could aid investigations and peacekeeping operations.
