The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested an officer accused of stabbing a civilian in Ise-Ekiti after an altercation involving the officer’s girlfriend and the victim’s son.
The incident gained attention after a viral video emerged in which the victim’s daughter claimed that the officer, who is reportedly the orderly of a local chairman, attacked her father at their home.
She explained that the conflict began with a disagreement between her younger brother and a female classmate, which was subsequently reported to the officer’s girlfriend. The officer, along with another police officer, arrived at the family home, stating they were there to make an arrest.
In a statement released on Friday, Police spokesperson SP Abutu Sunday confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation.
The statement read “The Ekiti State Police Command is aware of a video circulating on social media, in which a young girl (name unknown) alleges that her father was stabbed by a police officer serving in Ise-Ekiti due to a dispute involving her brother and the officer’s girlfriend. Following the complaint, CP Joseph Eribo has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police CID to take control and carry out a thorough investigation.
“Meanwhile, the officer involved has been taken into custody for further questioning and appropriate action.”
The police command appealed for calm, particularly from the victim’s family, assuring the public that justice would be served.
“The command urges the public, especially the victim’s family, to remain calm as justice will be swiftly delivered in this case,” the statement concluded.
