A devastating incident occurred on Tuesday night at a football viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, where a police inspector suddenly died while watching the UEFA Champions League match between Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Inspector Stephen Enang, a devoted Arsenal fan and member of the Akim Police Division, was in high spirits throughout the match, cheering enthusiastically as Arsenal scored three goals against Real Madrid. However, his excitement turned to tragedy when he slumped and died shortly after the final whistle.

According to eyewitnesses, Enang was unconscious and not moving after the game, prompting fellow viewers to rush him to the Police Hospital in Akim. Despite efforts by medical personnel to revive him, Enang was pronounced dead, leaving his colleagues and friends in shock.

Enang’s friend and fellow football enthusiast described him as a quiet, soft-spoken individual who loved football and was an ardent Arsenal supporter. “He was hale and hearty before the match, and we didn’t notice any signs of illness,” the friend said. “He was so excited when Arsenal scored, jumping up in jubilation each time. We didn’t know he was gone until after the game, when we realized he wasn’t moving.”

The Cross River State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident, as efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, were unsuccessful.

The sudden passing of Inspector Stephen Enang has sent shockwaves through the community, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated officer.
