The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has officially appointed Sheikh Bashir Umar as its new President, succeeding the late Sheikh AbdulRasheed Hadiyatullah.

In a statement released by Secretary General Malam Nafi’u Ahmed, the council expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Hadiyatullah, describing it as a profound loss to the Muslim community in Nigeria and beyond. Prayers were offered for Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The council affirmed that Sheikh Umar’s appointment follows due constitutional process and established protocols. Ahmed voiced strong confidence in Umar’s leadership, scholarly depth, and dedication to upholding Shari’ah and justice.

The SCSN also noted that the announcement of a new Vice-President will be made soon. It called on the Muslim Ummah to continue offering prayers and support as the council remains committed to advancing Islamic values throughout the country.
