The Vice Nigeria , Kashim Shettima has called on political stakeholders in Kano State to set aside their differences and prioritize unity, cautioning against divisions that could undermine the state’s influence.

Shettima made the appeal on Saturday during a condolence visit to the Emir’s Palace following the death of the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi.

Addressing a gathering that included Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and prominent figures from both the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya camps, Shettima urged all sides to work towards harmony.

“It is a mistake for a state as politically respected as Kano to be torn by political disagreements,” he said. “Kano is a model for the rest of Nigeria. We do not celebrate when we see division or conflict among its people.”

Highlighting Kano’s strategic role in Northern Nigeria, Shettima added, “Kano is the heartbeat of the North; whatever affects Kano affects the entire region.”

In a bid to connect more personally with his audience, the Vice President delivered his speech in Hausa. “Even though I am not a native speaker, I wanted to speak in Hausa so my message would be clearly understood,” he explained.

Shettima also prayed for the late Galadiman of Kano and expressed sympathy to families affected by recent bandit attacks in Shanono Local Government Area, where lives were lost and some residents kidnapped.

“We continue to pray for peace, not just in Kano, but across Nigeria,” he said.
