Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has declared that the people of the state will not oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, citing the President’s consistent support and goodwill towards Delta.

Speaking on Monday at a formal welcome ceremony in Asaba to mark his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Oborevwori said Tinubu’s gestures of support for his administration must be appreciated and reciprocated politically.

“Mr. President has supported us, he has shown us love,” the governor said. “We cannot turn around in 2027 to work against him. That love he has shown to Delta State must be repaid — and we can’t do that from our former party. We have to be inside to do it, and do it well.”

The event follows Oborevwori’s recent switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, alongside former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other top political figures in the state — a shift that marks the end of nearly 26 years of PDP dominance in Delta.

Addressing APC governors and party stakeholders at the gathering, Oborevwori emphasized that the decision to join the ruling party was a unified move by leaders at all levels of Delta politics.

“This is not just a defection — it is a movement,” he declared. “We’ve agreed to move together, and when we move as one, we can secure what belongs to us at the national level.”

The governor assured the APC leadership of full cooperation from political actors across Delta’s state, local government, and ward levels.
