A police officer from Kaduna State, Hadaina Hussaini Dan-Taki, has issued a warning of retaliation against southerners living in northern Nigeria following the brutal killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Dan-Taki made the threat in an impassioned Facebook comment on Tuesday, vowing that northerners would take swift action against southerners in response to the killings.
He wrote, “I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys. Have you forgotten all your brothers living here in the North? Mark my words, within a week, you will see the results.”
After receiving widespread criticism for his post, Dan-Taki altered his first name and restricted access to his Facebook page, limiting the visibility of his posts and comments.
The post caught the attention of an X user, Uche, who shared a screenshot and tagged Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi. In response, Adejobi commented, “Noted for necessary action. Thanks.”
In related developments, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings of the hunters from Kano State in Uromi.
The suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further questioning, as confirmed by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The attack occurred when the northerners, on their way to Kano for Sallah celebrations, were ambushed by a mob, who looted their vehicle and killed them. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage and calls for swift justice.
Governor Okpebholo condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable, and assured that those responsible would face the full force of the law.
